Instructions in List Maintenance

The Instructions list contains preset instructions you can choose from when creating a prescription.

Adding Instructions

To add a list item to the Instructions list:

  1. Select More (...) > List Maint.

  2. From the dropdown menu, select or enter Instructions.

  3. Select the Add button. A new row appears.

  4. Enter the following information:

    • Code - enter the complete instruction using SIG Codes. For a list of default SIG Codes, see the SIG Code list.

    • Description - enter the translated instructions for use. This can be entered in English.

    • Language - select the language for the instruction.

    • Days Supply - enter a value that will be used to calculate the days supply for prescriptions using this instruction. The days supply is calculated based on the quantity dispensed in the prescription and the Days Supply factor. You can manually change the days supply in Rx Detail.

    • Frequency - enter a value that reflects the frequency of administration.

    • Qty From and Qty To - enter the quantity for one dose.

  5. Select OK. The Custom checkbox is automatically selected to indicate that you added the list item manually.

Instructions = "Take 1 capsule daily."

  • Code = T 1 CAP DY

  • Days Supply = 1

  • Frequency = 1

  • Qty From and Qty To = 1

  • If the quantity dispensed was 30, the days supply would be 30.

Instructions = "Take 1 capsule four times daily."

  • Code = T 1 CAP QID

  • Days Supply = 4

  • Frequency = 4

  • Qty From and Qty To = 1

  • If the quantity dispensed was 40, the days supply would be 10.

Instructions = "Take 1 or 2 capsules every 12 hours."

  • Code = T 1 OR 2 CAPS Q12H

  • Days Supply = 4

  • Frequency = 2

  • Qty From = 1

  • Qty To = 2

  • If the quantity dispensed was 40, the days supply would be 10.

Removing Instructions

To remove a list item from the Instructions list:

  1. Select More (...) > List Maint.

  2. From the dropdown menu, select or enter Instructions.

  3. Highlight the row you wish to delete.

  4. Select Remove.

  5. Select OK.
